Per 500 mL (after mixing the 2 soln from upper & lower chambers) Electrolyte: Na 17.5 mEq, K 10 mEq, Mg 2.5 mEq, Ca 2.5 mEq, Cl 17.5 mEq, sulfate 2.5 mEq, acetate 8 mEq, L-lactate 10 mEq, citrate 3 mEq, P 5 mmol, Zn 2.5 micromole. Carbohydrate: Glucose 37.5 g, glucose conc 7.5%. Amino acids: Total free amino acids 15 g, total nitrogen 2.35 g, essential/non-essential amino acids: 1.44, branched-chain amino acids 30% (w/w). Vit: Thiamine Cl HCl 0.96 mg (thiamine equiv of 0.75 mg). Total calories: 210 kCal, nonprotein calories: 150 kCal, nonprotein calories/nitrogen: 64. Indications/Uses
Provision of amino acids, electrolytes, vit B1 & water to patients w/ mild hypoproteinemia or mild malnutrition due to inadequate oral intake, & before & after surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 500 mL/dose infused via peripheral vein at infusion rate of 500 mL administered over 120 min. Max dose: 2,500 mL/day. Adjust dose according to patient's condition, body wt & age.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ hepatic coma or at risk of developing hepatic coma; serious renal dysfunction or azotemia; CHF; severe acidosis; abnormal electrolyte metabolism [hyperkalemia (eg, oliguria, Addison's disease), hyperphosphatemia (eg, hypoparathyroidism), hypermagnesemia (eg, hypothyroidism), hypercalcemia]; abnormal amino acid metabolism; reduced urine output due to obstructive uropathy.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ known hypersensitivity to drugs; CV dysfunction; acidosis; DM; renal or hepatic dysfunction. Should be used only for short-term nutritional therapy. Limit use to 3-5 days & institute oral/enteral nutrition or other regimens as soon as feasible to do so when used alone in post-op patients. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly & critically ill patients.
Adverse Reactions
Vascular pain, phlebitis. Nausea, vomiting; chest discomfort; elevated AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase or total bilirubin levels.
